Sodium Sulphate

Sodium Sulphate

Sodium Sulphate is a white, orthorhombic crystalline solid at room temperature. It has a monoclinic structure at temperatures above 100°C and assumes a hexagonal structure at temperatures above 250°C. At high temperatures, it is reduced to Sodium Sulphide. However, under normal conditions, Sodium Sulphate remains a stable compound that does not decompose or react with oxidizing or reducing agents. It forms a neutral (pH of 7) solution in water and is most soluble at 32.4°C, with a solubility of 49.7 g per 100 g of water. The decahydrate form of Sodium Sulphate is commonly known as Glauber’s Salt, and nearly half of the world’s production comes from its natural mineral form, Mirabilite. Additionally, the anhydrous form of Sodium Sulphate occurs in nature as the mineral Thenardite.

Packaging

ACI’s Sodium Sulphate is available in durable 50 kg bags, ensuring ease of handling, transportation, and storage. These high-quality, moisture-resistant bags help maintain product integrity by preventing contamination and degradation. For bulk requirements, Sodium Sulphate is also supplied in larger quantities, tailored to meet the specific needs of industrial and commercial clients. The packaging complies with industry standards to ensure safe storage and extended shelf life. Custom packaging options may be available upon request to accommodate various operational and logistical preferences.

Vision, Mission, Strategy & Principles

Sodium sulphate is generally regarded as nontoxic; however, it should be handled with care to minimize potential health risks. The dust generated from sodium sulphate can cause temporary respiratory issues, such as asthma, or lead to eye irritation. These risks can be mitigated by using proper protective equipment such as safety goggles and a dust mask. Proper storage conditions should also be maintained to ensure the product remains free from contamination. In case of accidental exposure, follow the recommended safety measures below:

  • Eye Contact: Immediately flush the eyes with clean water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.
  • Skin Contact: Wash the affected area thoroughly with water to remove any residue.
  • Ingestion: If a large amount is swallowed, seek medical assistance immediately.
  • Proper Ventilation: Store and handle sodium sulphate in a well-ventilated area to minimize dust inhalation.
  • Avoid Moisture Exposure: Keep the product in a dry environment to prevent clumping and degradation.
  • Protective Equipment: Use gloves, protective clothing, and a face mask when handling large quantities to reduce exposure risks.
  • Emergency Response: Keep emergency contact numbers accessible in case of accidental exposure requiring medical intervention.
